Three things, in order of how much damage they do. Heat speeds up every chemical reaction in the liquid. The casualties are not random. Citrus oils, aldehydes, and light green notes go first, because those molecules are small and reactive. Why it disappears from your skin so quickly
Concentration is the first answer. Skin is the second answer. Fragrance molecules need oil to hold onto, so dry skin releases them all at once and then has nothing left.
